For some reason, I find it easier, and much more comfortable using keyboard shortcuts. (Who doesn’t? :P)
Anyway, this shortcut allows me to access my most frequently visited sites by just inputting one letter on the url address bar.
I access my wordpress admin by pressing c on the url address bar.
I access youtube by hitting “yt”.
I access warriorforum by pressing w.
I access youtube search by inputting “y”+my search.
I access imdb search by inputting “i”+my search query.
So how do you do it?
Well, it’s known as firefox keyword bookmark shortcuts.
No, you don’t need a plugin or addon, only firefox and your saved bookmarks.
Basically how it works is, instead of having to type long url addresses, you can substitute that long url address with a letter or keyword which you set in the bookmark’s properties.
To set the bookmark’s properties:
1) Hit Ctrl+B to open up the bookmarks panel.
2) Right click on your bookmarks, and select properties:

3) Now, input a letter or keyword you want to associate that bookmark with and hit ok:

Now everytime I hit “y” on the url address, I get redirected automatically to youtube.
(Actually, I use “yt” for youtube and “y” for youtube search… this is just for demo purposes. :))
You can even use it for searching youtube for a video without visiting the youtube homepage.
Example, if I want to search youtube for funny videos, this is what I would type: y funny videos, and hit enter:
This is because I saved a bookmark for youtube search.
What’s the URL address for youtube search, imdb search, ebay search?
On the Location field, copy the following as the url:
Youtube Search:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%s&search_type=

So everytime you want to search music videos on youtube, you would type:
y music videos (depending on your keyword)
For imdb search, this is what I use:
http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=%s&x=0&y=0
So If would want to see reviews or info on Iron Man, I would type:
i iron man
on the url address bar and it will automatically redirect me to search results for Iron Man.
For ebay search, this is what I use:
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=%s&category0=
So, what types of sites would you want to apply a shortcut?
Your wp-admin login page.
Your most visited forum.
Your most visited video site.
Your most visited blogs.
Youtube search, google search, forum search, ebay search, etc
A lyrics site.
In other words, your most visited sites!
Go try it!
It’s easy and wouldn’t take much of your time!
